DISPLACEMENT VOLUME AND SURFBOARD DESIGN
How displacement affects surfboard design
Dispalcement is the volume or weight of a fluid displaced by a
floating object. In surfboard design, the degree that surfboards and
surfers displace water.
Static Displacement is the degree that a surfboard displaces water based uniquely on the volume of the surfboard combined with volume of the surfer (size or physical dimensions of the surfer.)
Dynamic Displacement is the degree that a surfboard and surfer displace water based on the combined volume of the surfboard and the surfer and the surfer's technique or board management skills.
Ultimately, it is dynamc displacement that determines how much volume (and how that volume is configured) is appropriate in the design of any surfboard.
