[ Classic Fish ]
DESCRIPTION The Classic Fish was pioneered by Steve Lis and adapted to stand up surfing by Jeff Ching in San Diego surfing Ocean Beach and the Sunset Cliffs. The design took inspiration from the "twin pin" deep cut swallow Surfboards La Jolla design. The deep cut swallow of the classic fish creates two "twin" pintails which engage the wave separately when on rail. They are designed for a wide variety of conditions performing well in small and marginal waves and in quality and critical waves. Classic Fish are a relatively short surfboard with a full nose, noticeably parallel outline with the deep cut swallow. The subtle profile and foil carry volume throughout. Bottom contours feature convex tri plane entry and wide point to panel vee or tri plane entry and wide point to spiral vee. Decks are flat, concave, or crowned. Rails are low, moderately chiseled, and well foiled for flat and crowned decks or low, moderately crowned, and well foiled for crowned decks. Keel fins are traditional. The significant surface area and volume in a Classic Fish offer excellent performance opportunities in marginal waves and quality waves. Instant acceleration, speed, and maneuverability are the most notable performance features of Classic Fish. They are very versatile, intriguing and attractive design. DESIGN FEATURES Rocker: Classic "Fish" rocker. Profile: Moderate foil with significant volume. Outline: Deep cut swallow. Bottom Contours: Tri plane entry to wide point to panel vee wide point to tail or tri plane entry to wide point and spiral vee wide point to tail. Deck & Rails: Flat, concave, or crowned deck. Moderately chiseled well foiled rail profile for flat and concave decks and moderately crowned well foiled rail profile for crowned decks. Fuller rail profile for bigger surfers. Thinner rail profiole for smaller surfers. |
