[ Malolos ]
Malolos are a
class of short board designed for maximum performance in marginal
waves. The design adds volume with surface area in the outline and
moderte thickness in the profile and offers excellent paddle and
glide with relaxed rocker throughout. Malolo's are generally a few
inches shorter than a go to short board - basically the same length
as the NC Merlin or double down. The relaxed rocker profile, full
outline, flat or concave deck with fuller rail profile, and concave
bottom contours yield an extremely fun high performance board in a
wide variety of conditions. Like most designs for marginal conditions
the Malolo will perform well in better waves as well. Design features
- Rockers: Speed Box or Relaxed rockers designed
primarily for marginal and small waves. Profiles: Moderate
foil with sufficient volume throughout to support the surfer in
marginal conditions yet foiled enough to maintain control.
Outlines: Classic Winged & Double Winged Swallow Tails and
Round Pin Tail to maintain surface are from the fins forward and
reduce surface area from the fins to the tail. Bottom
Contours: Shallow vee in entry, moderate single concave begins
between entry and wide point, reaches maximum depth near the leading
edge of rail fins, and fades through the tail with double concave.
Wider versions van feature shallow vee with double concave wide point
to tail with the vee peaking in front of the fins. Rails:
Marginally fuller than the rails of most shortboards still varying
with surfer's size and technique - fuller rails for technique that
generates greater displacement or bigger surfers - thinner rails for
a more light footed technique or smaller surfers. |
